Extra Income, Passive Income, or Side Hustle

This might be a weird post since I know we can make some income from having a blog, of course, a successful blog. The thing is since this pandemic, and of course, with all the social media platforms out there, people are making money. I know that to be successful it needs to be good content, creative and consistent. Obviously, I am trying, I have this blog, not much going on yet, but I am building it up. I am on other platforms, trying to build those as well, but it takes time. I have seen those ads about owning your Alidropship, Shopify, or Amazon sites where you can make money selling products. We all know that it takes money to make money.

I currently do invest in stocks, mutual funds, ETFs and have for quite a while. I have invested in Crypto, nothing to write home about, but a little, just in case you know it skyrockets. I am not looking for an easy way or looking to make millions a month. I simply would like to make at least half of what I make now, and eventually make what I currently make at my job and dedicate the time to grow. Not that I am making excuses, my busy life barely gives enough time to write a post let alone search for products, set up the descriptions, pricing, shipping charges, etc. I know there are companies out there that will get you started, but I feel like there is something wrong about that, I just can’t place my finger on it, but I get a little nervous handing out my credit card number or bank account to a business that is hard to determine if they are legit or trustworthy. Not saying that all companies are bad, but we do have to be somewhat cautious in today’s society due to all the online transactions that occur.

I would like to build my followers on my blog, and YouTube channel, and provide content – great content – to my followers and anyone else that happens to be reading, listening, watching on as many platforms as I can. It is tough, but I try each day and learn as much as I can on how to edit videos, sounds, writing, pictures so that I can share them. I am still working on it and I know it will be a long road ahead until that one day I could throw my hands in the air with joy and say I did it. I recently started a Podcast and I am working on creating scripts for content, setting things up for certain days on certain topics that will entice the audience. I am still working on ideas, and hopefully, launch that within the next couple of days. Like I said I would really like to create a passive income or business that I can run from my house or anywhere for that matter and generate the income that would allow me to continue to provide my family with the life I have now. Not looking to make thousands a month over night, but I would simply like to eventually replace what I make now and dedicate more time to my family and of course give back to my community, make a difference, donate to a charity, or volunteer some time.

I have attempted with some success all types of business ventures, from owning a vending machine route to placing little ads in newspapers (back in the day) selling items, selling at the swap meet, garage/yard sales, flipping notes, I mean the list goes on. Actually, I started a blog on Blogger about 15 years ago, but I just stopped when my son’s hockey life started it sort of consumed my life – not that I am complaining, just saying. I think maybe if I could have continued working on that blog my life could have been different now – maybe.

The reason for my post is more of me talking aloud, sharing my thoughts, and seeing if maybe something pops out during the writing of this post. I don’t mind putting in the effort/time into something, and of course some money to get things going. Let me put this in perspective, if I had to work say three hours a day, spend 500 a month for a year – might be far fetch, but let’s say this for the sake of my post. Three hours a day, 500 a month to the point where the sales begin to pay for the advertising and I don’t have to put in my own money to advertise, but reinvest all the profits back into the business, and take nothing for myself the first 12 months, I would definitely do that. After 12 months let’s say after advertising, and other costs, I could pocket say $1000 a month that would be great. Then from there, the idea would be to grow and once again after all costs, make an extra 2000, then maybe 3000 and so on – that would be ideal. I am sure you are all reading this and saying heck yeah that sounds good, sounds better than working 10-hour days for someone else, and barely getting a raise each year. So, I guess it sounds like I would like to get out of the rat race, hmm, maybe and pour my heart and soul into something I could be proud of. We have all seeing the videos, whether on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and other platforms about how people are making money working from home, online, with little to no effort. The thing is, can one of those really pay off.

Hey wait, I even tried day trading. I used a well-known platform, practice for nearly 10 months, studied several-several ways to read charts (such as candlesticks, 1-2-3 formations, etc.) and in those 10 months, I was making money (paper money) but making money. As soon as I started to invest live, it was different. I started ok, you know making an extra 50 to 100 a day. I thought I found it, then the charts changed, the timing (ticks) was off, I could be wrong, but the day’s charts started to act and move differently and after 7 months I lost nearly all my investment – I got out. I had invested 1000 for the platform, about 1000 in training, and then my initial investment of 5000. I am telling you I was up about 12K, following the plan I had each day, not getting greedy. I was doing one trade per day for the first month then 2 trades per day the second month, and the third month and on I was doing 3 trades per day –300 a day. I was online from 6:15 am till 11:30 watching and going in just when I saw the right formation and it was working for the next 2 months or so. Then the last two months it went downhill; I did not lose every dime, I got out with just a little less than 1500. But the platform and training cost was lost, along with 3500, but it was an experience. I am sure others have done great or are doing great, and maybe it was a sign – if you want to call it that – and it was just not for me.

So, like I said I am talking aloud to see if something pops. In the meantime, I will keep searching doing my due diligence on possible ways to make additional income, passive income, or a side hustle.

Thanks for reading and I leave you with this thought, “Not everything works out, but an experience is learned, and if you keep pushing, keep trying, something will eventually give”. Take care and have a wonderful day or evening.

Strange but true, I was born in San Salvador, as an abroad US citizen. It sounds strange, but you see, my mother was 5 months pregnant and happen to be visiting San Salvador. She slipped and fell in a pool and well, I was born. I am a twin, but unfortunately, he did not make and I did. My mother’s side of the family happens to be well of, and I had the opportunity to live a nice life early in my childhood. You know, private school, servant, nice home, and vacations. Things change when my mother decided to follow my father to the United States and well, that is where my story begins. I started a blog a while back, but life sort of hit and I left it behind, but now as I am a bit older, I decided I needed an avenue to share my experiences with others, while at the same time allowing me to open up and talk like I am on someone’s couch, I guess you could say. This blog will be more like an open book, created by experiences that I have had throughout my life. Experiences that many could relate to and what I did or how I handled it, you know after the fact. You never know there just might be a piece of information, idea, an option that someone could use and it would help them through the experience. Just remember these are my experiences, things I have been through, work through, and lived through – it does not mean I am right, but it does not mean I am wrong – it is simply an experience.

  1. Warren Buffett once said, if you don’t find a way to make money while you sleep, you’ll work till you die. Passive income is absolutely important for financial freedom. I myself am trying to build multiple passive income streams and hope you do so too. All the best for your blogging journey! Do also check out my blog sometime too!

    1. Awesome, and thank you. I am sure something will give sooner or later. Best of luck to you as well, I will be taking a look at your blog.

  2. I totally understand your journey of trading. Were you keeping a journal? Logging your trades and how consistent you really were?

I think at the moment the markets changed and you learned that lesson if losing, you just needed to learn to adapt before it was too late.

    Great post!

I think more people should learn to trade the foreign exchange markets.

    1. Yeah, I kept a journal entry, and had a plan in place which I followed to the “T”. I started with one trade a day, good or bad. The second month I was doing ok and was trading twice a day good or bad. The third month I was at three trades per day good or bad, and I was doing just fine, nothing to write home about but fine. It was into the fourth month towards the end that my ticks seem to change, slow down, not sure but I stuck to the same plan, but it was becoming more difficult to see the formations, maybe just me, but it was a heck of experience and I might consider doing it again. I appreciate the comment and I will check out your page. Thank you.

      1. Did you see my article on Binary Options? I think for most people it’s more simple to trade.

There’s no stop losses, lot sizes or take profit levels. Just time based trading!
